Doctors, nurses, and other IHA volunteers have repeatedly participated in humanitarian missions in Uganda and Bukoba – Tanzania. In 2011 and 2023, they organized medical missions to Madagascar with 8 and 12 members, respectively. Another mission is planned for July 2024.
These teams travel to remote areas under very difficult conditions (long distances, dangerous and lengthy journeys) to help people with almost no access to medical care. Many patients gather and wait even before the mission arrives in their area. Often, the ringing of a bell, which may be the only means of information and communication in the area, brings together hundreds of sick people.
Ultimately, the most significant offering for these people is the sense of love, concern, and support they receive from the volunteers’ visit rather than the medical care itself.
